11 August 2007– Lewes 2 Hayes and Yeading United 1

Man of the match Andy Drury' s sublime 7th minute strike and Paul Booth's first of the campaign were enough to ensure that the Rooks began their 2007-8 campaign with a win against their newly-formed opposition.

Boss Steve King opted for a 4-3-3 formation for the season opener.  Summer signing Dale Binns again filled in at left back, with Jay Conroy and Ian Selley also making their league debuts. The home side started brightly, and the deadlock was soon broken when Drury controlled a difficult high ball from the left flank, swivelled and curled a stunning left foot shot into the corner of the net.

There were chances to add to the lead, most notably when Steve Robinson's header from a corner was cleared off the line, but the visitors slowly began to work their way into the game as half time approached, although there was still little by way of goalbound efforts to trouble Rooks 'keeper Steve Williams.

After the break the former Wycombe stopper did have a couple of long range attempts with which he dealt comfortably, but on 63 minutes he found himself picking the ball out of the net, as former Worthing midfielder Liam Collins' cross from the right was met with a looping header by Simon Martin which went in off the cross bar.  However within five minutes the Rooks had regained the lead, when a long ball forward by Binns was flcked on by substitute Jamie Cade, and Booth lifted the loose ball over visiting 'keeper Kevin Davies to seal a deserved three points.

Lewes: Williams, Conroy, Binns, Robinson, Simpemba, Holloway, Selley, Wormull, Watts (Cade 45), Booth (O'Connor 81), Drury (Legge 90).
