18 August 2007– Dorchester T 1 Lewes 3

Paul Booth's two penalties and an outstanding performance by Andy Drury were key factors in the Rooks' third league win in a week, a result which maintained their 100% start to the campaign.

After a six hour coach journey from Lewes which ensured that the game did not kick off until 3.30, the starting eleven which eventually took to the field was the same as the one which had triumphed at Thurrock four days earlier.

There was little to choose between the two sides for most of the first half hour, and little to talk about by way of goalmouth incident.  Simon Wormull had a couple of long-range efforts before Booth narrowly failed to get on the end of an excellent Jay Conroy cross, and then the home side went in front on 28 minutes with their first real chance, Charlie Henry reacting quickest after a James Rowe shot had hit the post.

However by half time the visitors were level, courtesy of Booth's first spot kick six minutes before the break after Drury had been felled as he latched onto an incisive Wormull pass.  The second half was only a few minutes old when the Rooks were reduced to ten men, after a tussle between Henry and Dale Binns ended with the Dorchester player flinging himself to the ground in apparent agony, only to be miraculously revived when the red card was waved in the direction of the Lewes winger.

Despite this setback the Rooks went in front on the hour mark, when Drury picked out Conroy's powerful run into the box which was ended when he was brought down, and Booth duly dispatched his third penalty of the week to make it four goals already for the season.

Drury went close soon afterwards with a brilliant long-range effort which was tipped over the bar, and after the home side had struggled in vain to break down a solid rearguard action, he was the architect of the the classic breakaway goal which sealed the three points with twelve minutes remaining, bursting clear down the right flank before setting up substitute Craig O'Connor with an inch-perfect cross.

There was still time for Dorchester defender Nathaniel Pepprah-Annan to get sent off for two yellow cards in quick succession, and then after another skirmish involving Henry, Gary Holloway was dismissed.  His astonishment at the decision seemed to suggest that maybe there was an argument for mistaken identity.
