With Gary Holloway and Dale Binns both starting three game suspensions and Andy Drury again ruled out with a knee injury, Tom Davis made his first start in midfield alongside Simon Wormull and Ian Selley, with Jamie Cade starting on the right. The home side started positively, and Steve Robinson nearly gave them the lead before Booth got on the end of a Wormull cross to notch his seventh goal of the season from close range.
Moments later Kirk Watts might have doubled the advantage when clean through but Newport 'keeper Glyn Thompson was quickly off his line top smother the shot, and before the break Ian Simpemba wasted an even better opportunity when he found himself completely unmarked at the far post but headed wide. The visitors began to exert pressure as the interval meared, but failed to create any clear cut opportunities.
After the break it was backs to the wall stuff as the Rooks were pinned back and starved of possession for long spells. However they dealt with the aerial bombardment admirably, and on the one occasion when County did get a sight of goal, Williams made a magnificent save to keep out a Charlie Griffin header from point blank range. At the other end only excellent Newport defending denied Booth and Cade the chance to double thier side's lead, and even despite the late dismissal of Ian Hillier, the home supporters were left biting their nails right up to the final whistle as the visitors pressed incessantly but ultimately fruitlessly for an equaliser.
Lewes: Williams, Conroy, Barness, Simpemba, Robinson, Watts, Wormull (Legge 90), Davis, Selley, Cade (Elliott 90), Booth (Hamilton 66).
