Boss Steve King was able to name the same starting eleven as the previous Saturday at Havant, after Dale Binns recovered from an injury sustained in Wedneasday's friendly against Arsenal Reserves.
As expected the home side were quick out of the blocks, and had they made the most of a great early chance, it might have been a very much more uncomfortable afternoon for the Rooks. However after Groves had spurned a great opportunity on 17 minutes when clean through with only Dunstable 'keeper Paul Taylor to beat, he made no mistake moments later, drilling home a right foot shot from 12 yards after a great run and cross by Binns, who tormented the home defence all afternoon with his pace.
Groves' second came on the half hour mark, when he hooked home from close range after Steve Robinson had headed an Andy Drury free kick back across the face of the Dunstable goal. The big striker was inches away from completing his hat trick before the break when he just failed to get on the end of a low cross from the right by Jamie Cade, and Binns was denied a first Lewes goal when his left foot shot from an acute angle was brilliant kept out by Taylor.
After the interval Dunstable fought hard to try and find a way back into the game, but once Jon Barnett had wasted a golden opportunity to halve the deficit, they rarely threatened the Lewes goal. By contrast the visitors had a hatful of chances, especially in the last ten minutes, and also had two strong penalty appeals turned down when first Drury was felled in the box and then a Dunstable defender appeared to handle near the penalty spot. However ultimately it mattered little, and there now follows an anxious wait until Monday lunchtime, when the identity of their next oppoenents will be revealed.
