3 October 2007– Lewes 4  St Francis Rangers 1

Simon Wormull scored two cracking goals as the Rooks booked their place in the 3rd round of the Sussex Senior Cup against a St Francis side who were on level terms for much of the first hour of the encounter.

Boss Steve King took the opportunity to give starts to a number of players who had recently had limited time on the pitch, with only Steve Robinson, Paul Kennett and Jamie Cade surviving from the side which had begun against Dunstable last weekend.

The Rooks went in front on 13 minutes, when Leon Legge powered home a header, but after lively visiting forward Sam Jeremiah had hit the bar with a header, he went one better on 18 minutes, glancing a corner from the right past Aaron France from close range to bring his side back on level terms.

The home side then laid siege to the Rangers goal, and only a combination of poor finishing and some questionable officiating prevented them from regaining the lead before the interval.  Indeed they had to wait until twelve minutes after the break to go back in front, when Wormull's perfectly weighted ball in behind the defence gave Paul Booth the chance to run on and deftly chip his tenth goal of the season.

Wormull then swept in a third on 63 minutes from outside the penalty area, but he saved his best until last, smashing a 25 yard volley into the top corner after a free kick from the left had only been half cleared.

Lewes: France, Elliott, Barness, Robinson, Legge, Watts (Scott 73), Wormull, Holloway (Kennett 22), Selley, Cade, Both (Koroma 73).
