After the changes made to the starting eleven in midweek, Boss Steve King reverted to the side which had won at Dunstable the previous weekend, with the exception of Booth, who replaced Jamie Cade as Andy Drury returned to more familar surroundings on the right wing.
The start of the game was punctuated by stoppages, with Drury requiring lengthy treatment after a bad tackle by full back Adam Everitt, and an even lengthier holdup caused by a horrific injury to Cambridge captain Glen Fuff, which was later confirmed as a quadruple leg fracture. The home side then began to up the pace, with Lilywhites 'keeper Shane Herbert making fine saves to deny Dale Binns and Lewi sHamilton, and Tom Davis missing a good opportunity having created space for himself inside the box. It was thus somewhat of a surprise when the visitors took the lead with their first real attack of the game on 26th minute, Lee Roache reacting quickest to the loose ball after Steve Williams could only parry a Michael Gash shot.
The Rooks rather lost their way after that setback, but still had chances through Booth and Binns before the turning point of the game arrived just before the interval. Everitt had by this stage been cautioned for another bad tackle on Drury, and when he again brought down the winger, he was sent for an early bath. He was almost immediately joined by Mark E'beyer, who shoved Davis to the ground after trying to stop the resultant free kick from being taken quickly, and duly received a second caution.
After the break Lewes duly made the most of their two man advantage, with Leon Legge coming on for the injured Lewis Hamilton as King switched to a 3-4-3 formation, and by the hour mark they were ahead. First Booth volleyed home from close range after Drury had headed a cross back across the face of goal, and then after Herbert then made a magnificent save to deny the league's top scorer a second, and Matt Groves had hit the bar, Legge rose highest at the far post to power home a corner from the left.
The win was sealed with ten minutes remaining, when Booth's downward header from the edge of the six yard box eluded Herbert, giving the Rooks their first win against their opponents at the Pan after three draws, and enabling them to open up a eight point gap betwen themselves and sixth place even at this early stage of the season.
