Boss Steve King was able to name a side unchanged from last Saturday's contest, and the Rooks were nearly in front with only two minutes on the clock, when Dale Binns' low drive was brilliantly kept out by Grays 'keeper Danny Knowles. The visitors then had a spell when they had plenty of possession but failed to create anything of note, and it was the home side who took the lead when Simon Wormull's corner from the right was powered home by the head of Simpemba.
Just before the interval the lead was doubled when Wormull found Anthony Barness in space just inside the Grays box, and his perfect low cross was swept home by Paul Booth, his twelfth goal of the season. Wormull then had a chance to seal the tie before the interval, but shot lacked power and was easily gathered by Knowles.
After the interval the Rooks were content to concentrate on protecting their lead, and although the visitors had the lion's share of possession, they rarely threatened to find a way back into the game. The nearest they came was with just a couple of minutes remaining, when Barness made an excellent block to keep our a goalbound shot.
So another great night for Lewes in the FA Cup, and now all roads lead to Mansfield on Saturday week.
Lewes: Williams, Conroy, Barness, Robinson, Simpemba, Binns, Wormull, Holloway, Kennett (Legge 89), Cade (Watts 78), Booth (Griffiths 71).
