26 December 2007– Lewes 2 Eastbourne Borough 2

Paul Booth struck twice but two late Boro goals, the second in the fifth minute of injury time, enabled the visitors to preserve their unbeaten record and keep the gap between first and second at six points.

There was just one change to the starting eleven from the side which had overcome Fisher, with Jay Conroy returning in place of the injured Lewis Hamilton.  The home side were well on top in the first period, and seemed unfortunate not to have gone in front when Ian Simpemba's powerful header appeared to have been cleared after it had crossed the line.  However two minutes before the interval they got the breakthrough which they deserved, when Andy Drury eas felled in the box and Booth sent Boro 'keeper Lee Hook the wrong way with his spot kick.

The visitors had mustered little by way of an attacking threat in the first 45 minutes, save for a good chance for Alan Tait which was well saved by Steve Williams, and a Dale Binns goalline clearance from a corner.  After the interval they began to have more possession, but created nothing of note, and Booth's low drive looked to have sealed the three points with twenty minutes remaining.

Unfortunately all the hard work which had gone into the first 86 minutes was undone by Boro's now familiar indomitable spirit which has won them many points in the closing stages of games over the past eighteen months, although on this occasion they were helped to some extent by a couple of curious refereeing decisions.  Matt Smart's volley halved the deficit before Conroy appeared very unlucky to receive a second yellow card after apparently having won the ball cleanly, as he also seemed to have done when picking up his first booking.  The game then continued well beyond the 90 minutes despite there having been only one significant injury and three substitutions (in total nearly seven minutes were added on), and in the fifth of those minutes a goalmouth scramble eventually ended with Andy Atkin bundling the ball home from close range to earn the visitors an undeserved point in front of a bumper Boxing Day crowd of 2,299.
