Jamie Cade's second goal of the season ensured that the points were in the bag by the interval, as the Rooks cut Eastbourne's lead at the top to a point with a routine victory at Gander Green Lane.

With Simon Wormull, Tom Davis and Dale Binns all still missing, boss Steve King again called on Paul Kennett to anchor the midfield, and introduced two new faces.  'Keeper Steve Williams was finally able to rest his injured wrist with the arrival of ex Arsenal and Chesterfield stopper Michael Jordan, whilst Guyana international Shawn Beveney was named amongst the substitutes.

Playing with a near gale force wind at their backs in the first period, the visitors soon had the Us pinned back in their own half, and Paul Booth should have opened the scoring after a quarter of an hour, when he found himself with just home 'keeper Kevin Davies to beat but was twice denied.  However after the top scorer had then looped an overhead kick just over the bar, Davies undid his earlier good work on 24 minutes, dropping a free kick from the left by Andy Drury when under no pressure and thus allowing the alert Ian Simpemba to prod the loose ball home from no more than a yard out.

Four minutes later the lead was doubled, when the ever willing Matt Groves won a free kick on the edge of the area, and Booth smashed the ball past Davies for his 31st goal of the season.  Then five minutes before the break Cade scampered clear of the home defence, and after Davies had saved his initial effort, Booth was first to the loose ball, squaring it unselfishly to allow Cade to finish what he had started.

To their credit, the home side fought hard after the break without ever looking like reducing the arrears, and neither were there many chances at the other end for the Rooks to extend their lead.  However Booth did have the ball in the net again at the end of a lovely move, but he had strayed offside, whilst late on substitute Charlie Ide had a shot well saved at his near post by Davies.

Lewes: Jordan, Conroy, Barness, Robinson, Simpemba, Cade, Kennett, Holloway, Drury (Cox 78), Groves (Beveney 78), Booth (Ide 74).
