Schools Education Programme
Football can be used to promote many aspects of social skills and behaviours as well promoting the benefits of being active and eating healthily. We are seeking to enhance and extend our existing schools links by offering the chance for schools to use Lewes F.C. and football/sport as an alternative vehicle of delivery for subjects within the schools curriculum. We can work with yourselves to tailor the education programmes around your schools learning objectives and curriculum for the forthcoming academic year and aim to create an educational programme that seeks to involve schoolchildren, both boys and girls of all ages and abilities.
The Club has installed an Education Centre that will enable schools to visit the home of Lewes F.C, the Dripping Pan and participate within our schools programme and have the opportunity to learn within the surroundings of the ground. The Study Support Centre will be equipped with all the necessary equipment required for the sessions including laptops and I.T. equipment allowing those attending the programmes to produce the necessary work and access the Internet to research specific subject areas if required. Schools visits can also be tailored to meet the requirements of the school and the curriculum, but could also be used as a great opportunity to visit the Dripping Pan to find out more about Lewes F.C. within a general school visit. If you are unable to visit us we can come to you and work within the school environment for as many sessions as you would require us depending upon the subject being delivered.
The following list of programmes is not exhaustive and are examples of what could be delivered we would welcome any ideas from schools that would like to involve us in any other subject areas that are not listed. We would also be interested in working with schools that are looking to work towards gaining the Healthy Schools Award or are working towards the next level with the award such as the Gold Award.
Food for Fitness
This programme includes looking at our bodies and the importance that food and nutrition plays in taking part in exercise. It examines the effects of food on our bodies and the specific muscle groups that are used within sport as well as paying particular attention to fuelling and re-fuelling the body before and after exercise. This programme can cover many aspects of food and nutrition and can be tailored into a 1-hour, 2-hour or half-day programme. The 2-hour and half-day programme would include schoolchildren preparing a healthy lunch. An activity session would also take place within the half-day programme with the healthy lunch being created to replace energy expelled within the activity session.
Numeracy & Literacy
Once again using football as the vehicle of delivery, specific Numeracy and Literacy sessions can be created. Using tasks of planning a family day out at football match, completing a league table and producing your own match day programme are just a few examples of how football can be used to develop and enhance Numeracy & Literacy skills.
