Ellie Mason joins Lewes FC from the Lionesses

A familiar foe becomes friend after switch from Championship rivals

Lewes FC have signed defender Ellie Mason from London City Lionesses for the 2021/22 Women’s Championship season.

Mason, 25, leaves the Lionesses after two seasons at Princes Park to become Rooks boss Simon Parker’s latest signing of the summer.

The defender originally began her career at Watford’s centre of excellence, before moving to Chelsea in her teenage years. She won the League and FA Cup with Chelsea U17s and briefly returned to Watford at the age of 19 before heading to Millwall and then on to Yeovil, where she signed her first professional contract.

It was at Yeovil where Mason evolved from a midfielder to centre-back. Despite playing deep, she still finished the 2018/19 season as Yeovil’s top scorer and players’ player of the year.

A strong and versatile defender, Mason is as happy clearing the lines as she is driving forward with the ball. She is now an experienced Championship player was named captain of London City for the two seasons spent in Dartford.

“I’m very excited to be joining Lewes it’s a great environment and I’m excited to get going with the girls,” Ellie said. “The club had a very good season last year and I can’t wait to see what the future holds”

Manager Simon Parker commented: "Ellie is one of the most talented and versatile players in this league and is someone we can play in a number of positions. With the ability to drive with the ball and her overall composure I look forward to seeing what Ellie can do with this team."
