An impressive performance saw Lewes conclude their pre-season preparations with an encouraging 2-1 victory over National League South side Dartford.

The new-look Rooks started the game brightly against Steve King's visitors, moving the ball around well without creating any clear-cut opportunities early on.

The chances the Rooks did create as the half progressed were dealt with by Dan Wilks, who denied Trialist A and Ollie Tanner either side of a smart Lewis Carey save to keep out a George Porter header at the other end.

Lewes continued to see plenty of the ball though, and took the lead five minutes before the break through Joe Taylor, who finished from close range after Wilks had only been able to parry a Freddie Parker strike following impressive play down the right by Trialist A.

The second half passed without incident for long periods, with Lewes using the ball well when they had it and restricting Dartford to opportunities from distance which didn't force Carey into any meaningful action.

The Rooks doubled their lead with five minutes remaining, as Trialist B finished well from the edge of the area after good pressure from a Lewes sub had seen Lewes win the ball in the Dartford half.

The visitors enjoyed their best spell of the game at this stage, with Carey forced into a smart save to deny Dan Roberts.

Dartford then forced a couple of corners, and the second of these was headed in by Tom Bonner to halve the deficit.

Lewes saw out the closing stages comfortably to record an impressive victory in front of a crowd of around 500 in their final pre-season friendly.
