SSE Wildcats Football Fun For Girls

April 9, 2018

Lewes FC have teamed up with the Russell Martin Foundation to open a SSE Wildcats centre in Lewes

The Wildcats programme will be run by the Russell Martin Foundation, led by Girl’s Football Development Officer and Lewes FC Women striker Georgia Bridges. Lewes FC is delighted to be working directly with RMF to launch SSE Wildcats as part of our new Sussex Football Partnership.

"I am extremely proud to announce that we have three approved SSE Wildcats Centres" said Georgia.

Wildcats is aimed at girls aged between 5-11 and provides an open and fun environment for them to learn and train.”

The Football Association and SSE teamed up to launch the new initiative in 2017, SSE Wildcats, designed to inspire girls to be involved in the sport.

John Donoghue, Lewes FC Women’s manager, commented: “The success of our team and the EqualityFC (equal pay) campaign has helped to create a huge increase in interest in the women’s game locally. In particular, we’ve seen so many young girls coming along to matches and we want to build on that by offering more ways in to playing football for the youngest ones. Wildcats is a really exciting new development.”

As well as Lewes, there are two other local FA approved centres

RMF also announced their second ‘Girls Only’ Football Festival, sponsored by Equality FC, on the 19th May at the Lewes Rookery 3G, for team ages U9-U16.

"Last year’s tournament was a great success with over 250 girls playing football with a smile on their faces, celebrating FA Girls Football Euros Week. I look forward to hosting an even bigger and better day and I hope to see your team there" added Georgia.
